This is my latest acrylic painting which is now for sale and ready to go to his new home. I loved working on this piece. I had an image in my mind when I planned this painting. It was inspired by my first trip to Scotland. The sunset through Roseisle forest was incredible and I just envisioned an impressive Red Deer Stag stood there. The regal stance as they take ownership of their environment. When making a background work around your subject, working from two separate references, its so important to make sure the subject looks part of its surroundings. This is where my photo editing software plays a huge part in my creative process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designing the layout, getting all the elements together takes time and accuracy but then you have to make them appear as if that’s how the photograph was taken. So for this piece, I used some of the background colours from the sunset light bouncing off the trees onto the Stag. Reflecting light from his impressive antlers with the dark shadow on the right as it was on the trees in the background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
