For any enquiries, commissions and adjustments when planning portraits I could not work without my photo editing software. For pet portrait commissions I always do numerous layouts so that my clients can choose their favourite and it enables them to see how the finished portrait will look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During this stage anything can be changed. I am often asked if I can change the reference photo. This may be just lightening certain areas, changing the background or in some cases actually changing the part of the subject. So in one case I was asked to use the ears from one photo onto another. The client preferred the face view of one photo but wanted the ears from another photo as they were showing more of the curls (Cocker Spaniel) so the ears were important. This was fairly easy to do as the two photos were of a similar angle. So this was all done in my photo editing software and I sent the new version for the client to give the go ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Ivy here, the client was swayed towards graphite due to her salt and pepper colouring and grey tones. To make sure she was sure I did a few layouts and here are a few. With pastels or painting you can have any background. Browns and neutral colours are popular but you could go with anything like shown here.
Adding a darker colour behind the subject can bring out lighter tones in the same that if you have a particularly darker area, a subtle lighter background will make that subject pop even more. Backgrounds like this mottled, glow effect can certainly add something to the piece and often looks really effective. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Teddy’s portrait was one that took a little more planning. His owner wanted something specific to fit in with the decor of the house. She had also seen my previous colour pencil on black paper pieces and wanted something similar. Back then I didnt offer pastel portraits but for this and his colouring pastels worked really well. This layout was the clients favourite but we tried many others first to make sure.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
