HOW TO DRAW A TREE IN PASTELS<\/h1>\n

I was asked to create a tutorial showing how to draw a tree. I thought this was a great element for a focus tutorial and over the weekend the 1.5 hour real time tutorial was uploaded to my Patreon channel. I also have a time-lapse version with voice over on my YouTube channel.<\/p>\n

Just like every tutorial regardless of the subject, topic or medium I am working in I always break them up into layers and manageable<\/p>\n

sections. They have in depth step by step voice overs throughout and my Patreon videos have no secrets. I share everything from start to finish. <\/p>\n

When I chose the reference photo for this tutorial I wanted to obviously draw the entire tree and in the similar perspective that we would draw something like this. Maybe as part of a landscape or a wildlife subject where there are trees in the distance. So for something like this there are a few key points to bear in mind. <\/p>\n

Objects in the distance whether its a animal, tree or building will not require the same detail as the same elements that are up close. If it’s further back you just won’t see every leaf, details on the bark and every twig. So really study that photo. Don’t be tempted to zoom into that reference photo if you’re using a tablet because that will make you see detail you just don’t need to include. If you were at the top of a hill and there was a farm building in the distance, would you be able to see the individual bricks? Probably not so in some cases less detail is more. That is certainly the case for drawing trees, hedges any foliage in this scenario.<\/p>\n
