This is going to be top favourite of mine. The colours, the depth and atmosphere I was able to create with the airbrush will be perfect for this piece.
Surprise subject..
I still haven’t revealed the subject for this piece.. But it is the first time painting this animal and they really are beautiful creatures.

The process
I started with a white canvas for this. The colours were more lighter anyway so I didn’t need to use a base colour first like I did in my Hedgehog piece on yesterdays blog post.
I built up the colours from light to dark and then reworked certain areas. Adding depth by deepening colours and then working on the final highlights in that middle section. My subject is going to be to the right of the painting so the darker corner will draw your eye more to the subject.
The bottom of the painting I have just left with these base colours as this is being reworked. It is a foreground that does have some detail but its still not in full focus. The good thing about working in acrylics is I can re-layer my airbrush over acrylic painted pieces so I can overlap to create nice effects. I haven’t actually attempted this before but will give it a go!
YouTube video showing how it came together 🙂
