This was my very first pet portrait on black paper. I have always done wildlife subjects and only used grey pencils to create a black and white effect. With Roxy, I wanted to use colours and see how well they showed up. Being black and white herself I really wanted to see how I could make her stand out on the paper.
Black fur has so many colours and has so much depth. The blues and purples really were what made this portrait. It makes her more 3D on the page like shes peeping out of the shadows. I just love working on black paper. One of my favourite techniques for sure.
