I really enjoyed working on her portrait. I always love drawing black subjects in colour pencils. Sadly, Bess is no longer with us and is dearly missed by her owner. The portrait was a surprise gift which I can now share with you :).
For this portrait I didn’t have the sharpest reference photograph to work from. It was a photograph taken on a mobile phone of the original photograph. That meant the detail was ideal but you could make out the clumps and clusters of some of the fur. I have drawn so many dogs that I felt I would be able to add more detail to the drawing than that of the original.
I received a lovely video of Bess’s dad opening the portrait. I rarely get to see this part and seeing how much it meant and the emotion really does make my job so rewarding and every hour I spend on them so worth while.

Here is the full time lapse video 🙂
