Fresh off the easel is this Barn Owl drawn in colour pencils on black paper. I say it each time but I LOVE working using this technique. I really like the effect it creates. Like the animal is coming out of the shadows.
Capturing movement..
One of my favourite things to draw is movement. And I haven’t drawn a flying animal yet so thought this would make a nice change. Combine that with black paper which I haven’t drawn on for months has been a nice change.
I decided to just add a hint of light/pencil strokes to the feet and tail to make sure the main focus was on the face. Having the subtle shades there just indicates what it is without drawing attention away from the main focus of the portrait. I am really pleased with how this piece turned out and will be planning another black paper drawing soon!
Any subjects you’d like to see me draw..
Drop me an email or message over at my Facebook page with any suggestions and I’ll happy add them to my list to draw 😀
