I’m getting back to my normal routine this week. First morning of an early alarm so I can see to my horses and sheep… Early alarm was a struggle but I have really missed my pets during this very scary time with the eye injury. My amazing husband has been looking after our little zoo!
Scary accident..
I’ll briefly explain the whole freak accident which was one of the scariest things I have gone through. On the 20th of January I was asked to step in on a fun game of Badminton. Its something my husband and his brothers do every Monday just for a bit of fun really. Well as one of them couldn’t make it I was asked to make up the numbers (something I have done twice before and enjoyed!). Well half hour into the game and I had the shuttle hit at full strength at a very close range – about 1 metre – straight into my opened right eye. It was something I knew had resulted in a pretty bad injury as I was left immediately blind in that eye. I feel so lucky that this was an injury that with time and strict bed rest and 9 steroid eye drops a day has pretty much resolved. I cannot be any more grateful. The first thing that came to mind when I was laying on the sports hall floor was ‘what if I cant work’. I cannot imagine my life without art and this is not a job for me. Its my passion, my life.
Fast forward 2 weeks..
Well I am pleased and very relieved to say that complete bed rest for 5 days, steroid drops and as they say time is a healer my sight has pretty much returned to normal. I’ve said it a lot .. But how lucky am I. It was truly terrifying and apart from some bruising and a little bit of swelling left to go down you wouldn’t know that this time 2 weeks ago I had no sight in that eye.
Anyway, back to the art 🙂
I finally got round to photographing my mounted work that I picked up from my framer a good few weeks ago. This is the pastel portrait I did for my nan of her Staffie, Roxy and her Yorkie, Bella who sadly is no longer with us.

I am so lucky to have such a fantastic framer just up the road from me. He always does such a great job. Now I just need to frame it and then find some wall space!
