Last week I completed this 6″ x 8″ pastel portrait of a super cute Cavalier King Charles. A portrait that will feature as a full length tutorial on Patreon and will be live the first week of July. The reference photo and line art will be provided should any members like to follow along. 

Cavalier King Charles are super cute and very expressive. My aim with this portrait was to show that you can work small and still achieve a good level of detail. It’s a common complaint when working with pastels is that getting detail you must work large which is simply not the case. There are a few things to bear in mind and then it can be achieved :).

Drawn on the dark grey Pastelmat worked so well for this colouring. It’s probably my favourite Pastelmat paper colour as it works so well with so many subjects.
