I enjoy creating these collages because it shows how every portrait goes through a layering process. It’s a gradual progression building values and depth and it’s very similar to how I approach my pastel portraits.
I loved painting Alfie the West Highland Terrier. White fur can be tricky but the reference photograph has so many lovely values and capturing the colours that are often reflected in the fur.
