HOW TO DRAW A YELLOW LABRADOR

DRAWING A YELLOW LABRADOR IN PASTELS

Yellow Labradors vary considerably. The colours I use for one may be different for another so it will fall down to the individual reference photograph you’re working on. An eye dropper tool can really help to pin point which colour you should be using but the most important thing over colour is contrast. Having the lights and darks accurate will make the most impact on the final piece.

Should the photo of that dog be taken at a different time of day, in a different environment etc the colours would vary. The white balance, how warm or cool the colours are with all be effected. I have a blog post here which explains the eye dropper tool and colour selection.

This portrait of Dexter was one I recently completed and you can see how many tonal variations there are. I have a video I recently uploaded to YouTube showing how I completed his portrait from start to finish. I have a 1 hour real time tutorial on Patreon where I show and explain the exact colours and the order I used them in to achieve this colour.

If my longer tutorials with in depth voice overs are of interest the link is below. I have a Patreon library here on my website which shows you a thumbnail of all the tutorials available :).
