Here is another update on my recent large acrylic painting currently on my easel. I really enjoyed capturing Lily last year for her A3 colour pencil drawing and surprise surprise I am LOVING capturing her again.
I have a superb reference photograph to work from for her portrait. All that gorgeous detail to capture. I am recording the entire process of each of the six dogs on this painting so you will be able to see just how many layers go down during each painting.

I approached Lily a little differently than I did Oscar on the left. I decided I wanted to get Lily pretty much finished before I then made a start on Harry to her right. I think this is definately now what I will do for each of the other 4 dogs. So I will then go back and finish Oscar at the end and add those finer details :). The picture below shows the difference in what the additional layers do to make the subject more realistic. Sometimes it’s easy to say things are finished to early. There are about 8 layers on Lily’s white in the centre of her face. On Oscar there are 3 layers. So those additional layers make such a difference.
