How to paint fur in acrylics?

I have just launched my acrylic tier on Patreon. After launching my pastel tier in February this year I have been really excited to offer painting tutorials too. Painting fur can be a challenge but when breaking down your reference photo into layers and smaller more manageable sections it becomes easier, less daunting to tackle.
Each week I upload shorter tutorials to YouTube packed with tips and techniques. I try and vary the tutorials between pastels and acrylics so there is something for everyone.
When painting fur, 90% of the time, I work from dark to light. Building up from what is closest to the skin to the lighter fur that sits on the very top. I find this to be the best method of achieving realistic fur.
The good thing with acrylics is its one of the most forgiving mediums to work in. If we make a wrong layer or a mistake we don’t like we can cover it over and re work that layer. Aside from spilling something on it or putting a hole through the canvas, anything can be fixed.
Is there a specific topic or element you would like me to cover in a YouTube video? Let me know in the comments on this video 🙂
Should my much slower tutorials in either pastels or acrylics be of interest click here to be taken to my Patreon. I have a full tutorial library here listing all the tutorials that are available so anyone looking to join can see if the content is of interest. I post regular tutorials from full length projects, focus tutorials and bonus videos. The great thing about Patreon is you can cancel at anytime. If you have any questions feel free to email me.
