Pet Portraits

Meet Harley <3

This is the second portrait of Harley I have had the privilege of drawing. The first was a graphite which I finished in January. After seeing the graphite piece her family also wanted one in colour but from a different photo. As you know, I LOVE drawing curls. Cockerpoos have lots of these so her portrait was one I got lost in :D. She's now at my framers being mounted so will be soon off to he...

New portrait on the easel

There are many aspects about my job that I love. Everyday is slightly different. I get to draw such a variety of breeds and animals. Where I use various mediums for one portrait I could be using graphite and then the other in colour. All of these things really do contribute to just one of the reasons why I feel lucky to call it my job. I have been wanting to start this pastel portrait for mont...

Levi is finished :)

As you know, I love drawing against a black background. I really enjoy the contrast it creates and how the subjects pop. The addition of two of Levi's favourite toys really balance out this portrait. He has such expressive eyes and the colour and reflection where a real pleasure to capture. Levi's portrait will be heading off home in the USA! His parents have been mentioned the mount and frame th...

Chloe & Molly Video!

Here is the full time lapse video of the recent pastel drawing of Chloe and Molly. A beautiful pair of Spaniels who I had the absolute pleasure of drawing. https://youtu.be/Al1WY9mvS_8 Music by bensound.com This was an A3 (11.7" x 16.5") size portrait and it worked well for this layout. I did a few different options and the placement and subtle glow background was the preferred option the...

Updating Thumbnails!

I have been busy creating some new video thumbnails. These are mainly for my YouTube channel to make it easier and clearer to navigate and see exactly what you're watching. They are a little time consuming so I tend to make a couple at a time. Nel's close up :D. Click the above thumbnail if you'd like to watch the full time lapse. I have one other video where I have chosen an area of Nel ...

Scooter :)

I was asked to draw Scooter a few years ago. I had the pleasure of photographing him for the portrait. His mum is a friend of mine and it was a pleasure to be asked to capture him for a surprise gift for his dad. A4 (8.3" 11.7") Graphite Drawing Sadly, Scooter is no longer with us. His family miss him dearly but they have many fond memories and now the portrait to cherish forever.

Real time video!

https://youtu.be/WiY2CPtRhWY Music by bensound Something different to what I normally make in terms of videos. This is a 9 minute video of real time footage. Not sped up at all. So you can see how each pencil stroke is made and how I approach the fur in layers. Last final details are put down when the portrait is near completion but this give a good insight to how I use my pastel pencils on t...

Levi’s work in progress

Such a sweet little face and those eyes were so much fun to draw. The colour and the shines it makes them look so 3D so I was keen to capture that in the drawing. Later today at 6pm, over at my Facebook page, I will be sharing a longer real time video of me working on the fur around his eyes. Showing exactly how I layer, use the pencils and what shades of pencil I am using the get the midt...

New technique… New subject :D

New materials..I have always loved working against a black background. It first sparked my interest when I was experimenting with colour pencils on black paper. Only using 1 white and 1 mid tone grey pencils to create the portrait was a good challenge. Just having to focus on values rather than colour. Experimenting can be worth while!Sometimes trialling new things doesn't always work out. Y...
