New Tiger

A new wildlife piece on the easel which I made a start on over Christmas. This is a piece I have designed from 3 or 4 different photographs to create a one of piece which is often how I like to work. There are times where I have a reference and although I adjust the contrast, saturation and placement I may copy that as it is. But when I have a set project in mind I like to design something unique...

Behind the scenes & a Flamingo!

Ah these past few days have been manic. I have been working hard to create video content for my new plans for 2021. After many requests following my recent voice over tutorials I have decided to set up a Patreon channel :D. This is something I am super excited about and am in the process of working out the type of content I'd like to offer. If this is something that you are interested in plea...

As soon as the snow was added I felt like this pastel portrait was complete. I haven't been able to share it with...

Black backgrounds..

One of my favourite ways to work is against a black background. I think it creates an effect that for some photographs is perfect. I then of course adapt my work from the photograph and change the lighting, contrast and composition. Whether its colour pencils and pastels on black paper or acrylics on a black airbrushed background the end goal is the same. I haven't yet tried it with pastels this ...

Graphite Wildlife Collage :D

Picking up the graphite materials has made me motivated to plan another wildlife graphite piece :D. There's a variety of species here but I certainly need to add more! The Rhino and Gorilla are two of my favourites. I had incredible photos to use and being A3 (11.7" x 16.5") I had plenty of space to add lots of detail :D. Both of these portraits were commissioned by a collector so are hung on the...
