Pet Portraits

Missed post yesterday!

My husband was off work yesterday and I went ahead and scheduled my social media posts and then completely forgot to share a blog post. I'm going to blame him for that haha! Screwed up my morning routine :). https://youtu.be/JRqP6lXzkBs Another video to share with you :). Gunner was a delight to draw. Feel free to head over to my YouTube channel for more videos. From acrylics to colour p...

Meet Gunner :)

Gunner is finished. What a beautiful horse I had the pleasure of capturing. This pastel portrait has been another one of mine which I will always remember. The background the client chose really worked well. That soft glow and working from dark to light really complimented him. A4 (8.3" x 11.7") Pastel Drawing The full time lapse of Gunner will be uploaded to my YouTube channel later today...

New video!

I am taking this time (was meant to be on holiday all of this week) to focus on a painting of my own. This will be of my red Staffie and my Sprocker. I took the photo during a holiday to Scotland and the lighting is beautiful. Strong warm lighting from behind them both which has over exposed parts but that is what I like. Normally that isnt ideal for using as a reference for a pet portrait but in...

As an artist who is always wanting to capture the personality and character of each of my subjects this is always more achieva...

Elf mounted <3

All of my pastel portraits come professionally mounted by my local framer. There is a huge selection (doesn't always make my decision easy 😜) but it means that there is always the perfect mount for any portrait. This mount used on Elf's portrait is one of my favourites. I have used it many times. It's has a subtle pattern creating a mottled type effect. I felt it complimented Elf beauti...

Drawing vs Photo

I should make more of these but always forget! I had a superb and insanely cute photo to work from for this portrait of these two gorgeous Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Having 2 Staffies myself I am a little biased and always love it when I am asked to draw them. This was an A4 (8.3" x 11.7") graphite pencil drawing I was asked to draw a couple of years ago. It's one that has always stuck i...

Charlie is next..

The next furbaby after Millie on the large acrylic painting I am currently working on is Charlie. Sadly, Charlie is no longer with us and passed away a couple of days before I started his colour pencil portrait below. He has the sweetest expression and his owners had taken some lovely sharp photographs for me to work from. It was a real pleasure being able to capture it and I am really en...
