Pet Portraits

Portraits framed in their home

I love receiving photographs like this. Both of these portraits were so much fun to do. Ludo the full body horse was such a beautiful photograph to work from. A low ground angle was just perfect for this. The Jess the beautiful Spaniel mid action shot playing with her toy was great to capture. I always love drawing subjects that are moving. Ludo's drawing was A3 (11.7" x 16.5") size and Je...

Meet Bess

I really enjoyed working on her portrait. I always love drawing black subjects in colour pencils. Sadly, Bess is no longer with us and is dearly missed by her owner. The portrait was a surprise gift which I can now share with you :). For this portrait I didn't have the sharpest reference photograph to work from. It was a photograph taken on a mobile phone of the original photograph. That meant...

Charlie’s Video

My Roxy on Black Paper

This was my very first pet portrait on black paper. I have always done wildlife subjects and only used grey pencils to create a black and white effect. With Roxy, I wanted to use colours and see how well they showed up. Being black and white herself I really wanted to see how I could make her stand out on the paper. Black fur has so many colours and has so much depth. The blues and purples rea...

Rosie & Scrappy

I had the pleasure of drawing this gorgeous pair earlier in the year. I had the pleasure of knowing these two really well after looking after them many times during my previous job at a kennels. The both were such characters. Sadly, Rosie (to the left) passed away a couple of months before I did this drawing. I have very fond memories of them both and being asked to do the portrait for a surprise...
