Back to work!

Sorry for the complete lack of blog posts since the 20th. I had a bit of a freak accident which left me temporarily blind in my right eye. Whoever said Badminton is a gentle sport is lying haha! Complete bed red and 9 steroid drops a day and I feel so lucky to say that my vision is almost back to normal :). I was back at work yesterday and it couldn't have come round sooner. I've missed it and ca...

Mounts for pastels

Here is an example of one of the mount options for my pastel portraits :). Majority of professional pastel artists do not use fixatives. Fixatives are a spray which are applied to the finished portrait to apply a layer which seals in the pastel. There are massive issue associated with fixatives because these fixatives actually alter the colours of the finished piece. They often also 'spit' o...

Choosing a mount..

I am so lucky to have a fantastic framer just up the road from me. He always does such an amazing job. My pastel portraits come professionally mounted and can be done in a variety of colours that best suit your portrait. This is an A4 pastel portrait of Star and both me and his owner felt the black mount complimented the portrait best. It works well with Star being a black dog and then white ...

The Rhino's were enjoying the mud puddles from all this awful wet weather we have had th...

Roxy & Bella are finished!

Here is the finished portrait of Roxy and Bella :). My first pastel pet portrait is of Roxy & Bella. What I LOVE about pastels is the lovely range of colours the papers come in and then the ability to add lovely soft backgrounds. For this piece I didn't add any background and just faded their chests into the paper. This was a surprise thank you gift for my nana. She helped out so much w...

First pastel pet portrait!

My nan helped out so much with the wedding; hand making all the table decorations, making the invitations and walking me down the aisle that I wanted to give her something special. I recently added pastels to my material list and I love them! I really wasn't sure when I first attempted the medium. This is my 4th ever attempt and I am so pleased with how they are coming out. A4 (8.3" x 11.7") P...
